Description

Flight Number 109 - Equestria to Reality now arriving at Gate G! +.+

Well, here she is: my contribution to the Rule 63 (female) Spike collective. I don't know why I did this picture, because I've never even thought about Rule 63 much before -- still, she looks very happy to be rocking away with her new guitar, (a "gift" from yours truly) which rocks!! After waiting patiently in line to make the crossing and holding still while I took forever to color her in, she's finally rocking out loud in full color HD to the song "Glass Faces" ~by~ Corellia:

(Note: The picture compliments the video well in my humble opinion; in the video, the artist is playing a lighter, higher-pitched version of the original song, which, like a girl, is a lot daintier and more elegant than a guy)

Although I can't play to save my life, I love metal and appreciate a fine guitar. Though I've never actually owned one, seen one IRL, or even know how to play it if you gave one to me, I've always kinda liked Schecter-brand guitars, especially the 8-string models popular in my favorite metal sub-genre, djent metal. The one pictured is a Schecter Diamond Series (now since discontinued) C-8 guitar, with dual dual-coil active pickups, in Black Cherry.

This drawing, while very rewarding (and one of my favorite that I've done) was pretty challenging. While it only took me about an hour to draw Spike from a reference, it took 3 hours staring at pictures of Rule 63 Spike, trying to discern the subtle differences that seemed to make her look more girly than him, so I could add them to this picture -- and the coloring was a different story altogether.

The original line-art was a little bigger than a full-sized sheet of copy paper; therefore, the scanned image was over 5,000 pixels tall. This meant that the file imported into Corel was already huge, and with the 14 different layers of color(s) I added to it, made the file so big, that the size alone [47 megabytes!] almost crashed the program itself several times when I'd ask it to process a command.

All in all, I think it was worth it. The guitar came out better than I expected, as I intended to mimic the blood/satin-burst pattern of Schecter's Diamond-Series C-8 guitar, although this time I needed to call in the services of a professional (my sister -- literally) to re-do the strings and tuners. Had I had the time, I would have liked to continue experimenting with her appearance (make her more feminine-looking) and perhaps add Rainbow Dash moshing/Singing Vocals in the background, but alas, other projects await!
